Interview

Last night I've sent out a resume/cover letter for a PHP developer job here in Pgh, and this morning I get woken up by the project head asking me to come to the interview at 3pm. Looks like they need a coder ASAP and only 2 other people have replied to the ad so far. I think I actually have a good shot at the job since I know PHP like the back of my hand, am familiar with open source development, and can start at a moment's notice! Now to read up on what the hell ERP systems are, and familiarize myself a bit more with the Smarty system.

То густо, то пусто (When it rains, it pours)

So it looks like I managed to leverage Murphy's Law into getting myself a job. I order my plane tickets last week, get them in the mail yesterday, and then today I get two calls for interviews. I go to one of the two interviews today and ace it (they want me to come in on Tuesday to start working). Then I came home to see a message blinking on my answering machine saying that CMU wants to interview me for another job. The first part of the interview is scheduled for Monday morning, and the second part for Tuesday evening. Gods damn it, these things could have been spaced out over the course of the 10 months I've been looking for a job, and they went and called on the same exact day. I really think I could do quite well at the CMU job too, seems to be right up my alley, and the building is no more than 5 minutes' walk from my home (the other place is about a 10-mile ride to an industrial park across the Allegheny).

This means that my holiday plans are probably scrapped, since the job I got accepted for is very time-critical, and if I end up taking the CMU one instead, it will be a good long while before I earn enough holiday days to even be able to deal with jet lag, let alone enjoy the holidays. Wish there was a bit more time involved, since I really do want to see my folks and poke around their new home. Sorry to anyone who was considering stopping by with me and my folks sometime during the break.
